PLEASURE

Dear Baya,

An awful lot of the questions I have asked you are about the unpleasant things in life. This fits with my worries as I grow up into a world which seems to me increasingly confusing. But you know me. I’m a hopeful person. I enjoy so much. Much of my life has been filled with delight. Some of it I have shared with you – gardens, music, painting and poetry. So my questions would be incomplete without asking you about the things in our life which give are really cool..

What would be really wicked is if you could write down some of the things – smells, sights, sounds, tastes, touches – which have given you pleasure. You were constantly playing me bits of your favourite composer, Handel, from a time when I was a baby. And we danced to the Beatles. We played many games in your lovely wild garden and you introduced me to flowers and trees.

You showed me new tastes and smells – green tea for example, incense sticks from Japan and Nepal.  And, above all, you were constantly quoting snatches of poetry in moments of special pleasure, and those words seemed to make the moment extra special.

So could you just let your heart free and tell me briefly what is really groovy for you? You often reminded me that we are animals, and gain just as much through our senses as through our minds. I don’t want to turn into a kill-joy, a dry and withdrawn person. And I want to hear your voice speaking about the things you love – which might even include me!

Do tell me what it really means when our head and heart become fused together.

                Lots of love,
