From the end of
the nineteenth century, Calcutta was one of the great tea emporiums
of the world. Here, in a small shop, in a street filled with similar
shops, a family firm (stretching back to the 1940's) of tea sellers
purhcase boxes of tea and retail them to the public. The portrait
of the founder smiles down benevolently on the lucrative business.
